It's not a scam. They're fundraisers for The Community School of Music in Mountain View, CA. I spoke with a delightfully cheerful volunteer who explained to me why they were requesting donations. The volunteer told me his name is Sean and donations are needed to raise funds for the classical guitar department at the school. Since I'm all for supporting schools and the arts (especially music) I felt compelled to donate $100.00 off of my debit card for the school's cause. The operator will ID. him/herself 1st by reading off some info about the relay service & subsequently saying their operator identity no. soon after that, these people are just reading whatever was being typed by the hearing impaired individual who requested for the ring to be placed.
